Joyce Chai (Faculty) - Joyce Chai received her Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Duke University. She is broadly interested in multimodal conversation systems, human machine communication, natural language processing, and intelligent user interfaces.
Tyler Baldwin
(Ph.D. student) - Tyler Baldwin received his B.S. degree in
Computer Science from Michigan State University in 2006. His research
interests include several different areas of natural language
processing, including automated question answering, discourse
processing, and dialog management.
Rui Fang (Ph.D. student) -
Rui Fang received his B.E. degree in Computer Science from Beijing
Jiaotong University, China, in July 2007. He then spent one year as a
guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in
Maryland. He joined MSU in Spring 2009. His research interests currently focus on natural language processing and human-machine interaction.
Matt Gerber
(Ph.D. student) - Matt Gerber received his B.S. in Computer
Science, with High Distinction from Ohio Northern University in 2005.
He is interested in the semantic analysis of natural language text and
currently working on the automatic identification of nominalization
argument structure within the NomBank corpus.
Changsong Liu (Ph.D. Student)
- Changsong Liu received his B.E. and M.E. degree from
University of Electronic Science & Technology of China. His research
interests focus on Human-Computer interaction in virtual/game environment and
automatic tutoring systems.
Zahar Prasov (Ph.D. student) - Zahar Prasov received his B.S.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2003. His research interests include multimodal conversation systems, human-computer communication, intelligent user interfaces, natural language processing and dialog systems.
Chen Zhang (Ph.D. student) - Chen Zhang received his B.Eng. degree in Computer Science and Technology in 2004 from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He is currently working on interactive question answering, and has previously worked on recognizing semantic entailment and interactive text-based image retrieval.

Marie Lazar (Undergraduate Research Assistant) - Marie Lazar is currently an undergraduate student at MSU with a double-major in Studio Art and Telecommunications. Her focus is in game design and she is particularly interested in creating content for 3D virtual environments.
